1) What is the Continental Congress’ attitude toward the king? They sound like they believe the King must not know what his ministers are doing. They sound happy and devoted to him. It sounds like they are really happy with him.

2) What is the Continental Congress’ attitude toward parliament (aka ‘the king’s ministers)? They are demons who bring about bloodshed with no reason. They make them sound unreasonable and mean. They hate them and want the king to step in and handle them.

3) According to the petition, what is the cause of the troubles between the colonies and Britain? It says they are being terrorized by the Ministers and they want them to stop. The petition says “the irksome variety of artifices, practiced by many of your Majesty’s Ministers, the delusive presences, fruitless terrors, and unavailing severities” and later they say “artful and cruel enemies, who abuse your royal confidence and authority, for the purpose of effecting our destruction.”

4) What, specifically, do they want the king to do? They ask for Peace and to have him stop the laws that hurt them. They ask the King to use his “royal authority and influence may be graciously interposed to procure us relief from our afflicting fears and jealousies, occasioned by the system before mentioned, and to settle peace” and later they ask “measures may be taken for preventing the further destruction of the lives of your Majesty’s subjects; and that such statutes as more immediately distress any of your Majesty’s colonies may be repealed.”
