What Type of Food is Frankenstein written in? Ghost pepper!
“I cannot believe that I am the same creature whose thoughts were once filled with sublime and transcendent visions of the beauty and the majesty of goodness.” (230) Creature is saying that he is forced to play the enemy of god which is the devil. The creature's creator, Victor, forced him to be full of hate. The creature plays his part well he has the subtle beginnings of a good human being, just like a ghost pepper starts off sweet and full of flavor. Eventually the Creatures sweetness runs out and he is left only with the bitter hot hatred for mankind, just like the ghost pepper is left burning your mouth. The hate represents the ghost pepper because it is the hottest pepper on the planet. The heat of a ghost pepper is the creature level of hate and anger towards Victor. “My rage and vengeance returned, and like a mighty tide, overwhelmed every other feeling, revenge.” (215-216) The heat from a ghost pepper will overwhelm all your other taste buds until heat is all you can feel.
Victor’s vengeance is enough to pursue the creature out into the icy water alone, with only his ghost pepper like hate to feed him on his journey of revenge. “He could not sum up the hours and months of misery which I endured wasting in impotent passion.” (231). The creature was alone his entire life. Being alone is what made him hateful towards his creator, Victor. Victor left him alone in a world he does not understand. Creature only wanted a companion in this cruel, cold world only to find that the heat of anger would help him live in that world cold world. In the end the creature found that he was not living at all only surviving. People cannot live on hate, just like they cannot live on ghost peppers, you need sweetness in your life to make it worth living.“You hate me, but your abhorrence cannot equal that with which I regard myself” (231) I found that this quote is like taking a bite out of a ghost pepper and then regretting it because no one can stomach the hate that Creature feels. The creature never wanted any of it, Victor made him do those horrible things. In the end they both took a bite out of the pepper and only found sadness and regret from that bite.
