-1 What is John Winthrop's message to the Puritans as they are about to land in the New World?

-2 What do you like or not like about Winthrop’s message?

“when tenn of us shall be able to resist a thousand of our enemies” I like this because what I think this means is even if you believe in something different you should not feel weird or bad because your 10 people who think that versus the 1000 people who think different then yourself. I do not like how he says “enemies” because why would a different thinking be an considered an enemy.

-3 According to Winthrop what values make for a successful society?

“wee must be knitt together in this worke as one man, wee must entertaine each other in brotherly Affeccion, wee must be willing to abridge our selves of our superfluities, for the supply of others necessities” in my words, we must be united together in this work as one, men! We must entertain each other in a brotherly affection, we must be willing to abridge our self to our superiors (god), for the supply of other necessities/needs. What I think according to Winthrop makes a successful society is that you treat everyone like your family and all follow one thing (god in this case) and help out where you can.

-4 What one word or phrase that Winthrop used best summarizes the entire speech? Why?
